Ring Main Phase Three Complete: ahead of schedule and on budget
Following a closure of Rue de L’eglise, Castel, Guernsey Water has successfully completed phase three of its ring main project, ahead of time and on budget.
Phase three involved the installation of 500m of pipework under the public highway, initially planned to take place in two sections, the first being completed this year and the second completed in 2026, has been fully installed under a single closure of 12 weeks.
Carl Falla, Capital Delivery Manager, said: “It’s very difficult to predict any difficulties and delays the team may come across during a project like this, and we are delighted that minimal issues combined with an amazing team, made up of both Guernsey Water staff and contractors from Geomarine, have resulted in this phase being completed on budget and ahead of time.
“Whilst the road was closed, our Teams also undertook refurbishment and replacement of a number of problematic foul water manholes, saving further disruption through additional closures.”
The ring main project is being undertaken over the next five to seven years to future proof water supplies for the Northern Parishes which will serve the island until 2100 and is expected to cost around £11m.
A ring main acts like a motorway of the water network, maintaining an even pressure while other mains feed from it.
"We're acting now to prevent problems in the future - a responsible course of action that is far less costly than fixing problems as and when they happen. A failure of the current ring main would leave thousands without water."
