Rectory Hill opens as ring main work moves to phase three
Following a 12 week closure of Rectory Hill, Guernsey Water has successfully completed phase two of its ring main project, on time and on budget, and is now moving into phase three.
Phase two involved the installation of 400m of pipework under the public highway, with part of the works requiring hand excavation to safely navigate around other services in the road.
An additional 500m of pipework is scheduled to be installed during the third phase of the project, the first half of which has now commenced on Route de L'Eglise, Castel, the second half will take place in 2026.
Carl Falla, Capital Delivery Manager, said: "This project is a great example of the benefits of Guernsey Water's forward planning. The ring main is essential island infrastructure, with increased growth and development across the island, failing to carry out this work now could result in pressure drops and even a loss of supply to thousands in future.
"We're starting this work now, to prevent these problems developing in future, saving on cost and disruption and safeguarding supplies into 2100."
The project, one of the largest new water infrastructure investments currently being undertaken by the utility, estimated to take between five and seven years to complete and cost approximately £11 million.
