Millennium Walk Awarded Storm Ciaran Recovery Fund Money

You love it. We love it. And we're dead chuffed to announce we've been awarded £10,000 from the Storm Ciaran Recovery Fund to get the Millennium Walk back to looking its best. Actually we will do better than that: by the time we've finished, it will never have looked better.

After the storm felled trees, broke branches and generally left the walk looking as clean and tidy as a teenager's bedroom, we had to close it for months while it was made safe.

When we reopened it at the end of January - complete with its new log-lined boulevard and chopped up trees - we knew it was the start of a journey to restoring it. So we applied to the fund, and have now been announced a recipient. We're very grateful to the Nature Commission for seeing the value in our vision. The walk is a great community space and we are dedicated to ensuring it stays that way.

Money is going to be spent on a significant enhancement of the area, with a thorough replanting scheme, new educational and interactive signs, a serious tidy up, more benches and by popular guest demand, an extension to the Bug Hotel.

Is there more? Of course there is. But we're not going to reveal all just yet.

Tania Sargent, Guernsey Water Customer Services Manager:
''We know there is plenty of love and affection for the Millennium Walk, and it was with huge regret we had to close it for an extended period time after the damage caused by Storm Ciaran. We are therefore thrilled to have received almost a third of the money from the recovery fund and will be putting it to the very best use, taking the opportunity to not only restore the walk to its former glory, but enhance and add to it as well. We've got a few exciting plans for the area and can't wait to announce them - keep your eyes on our social media pages for information of how we're going to turn the Millennium Walk all the way up to 11."

We're finalising the plans and timeframes, but rest assured the walk is still there for you to enjoy. It's just going to get better. And better.

Also a HUGE well done to the other projects too  - find out more about them here: Woodland Projects Awarded Funding | Nature Commission Guernsey
