Cesspit Portal One Year On

The digital gateway for cesspit customers – MyCesspit Portal – is now being used by a third of customers, as the online portal turns one.
Launched in December 2024, 900 of the services 5500 customers signed up within two months. Now, a year in, that number stands at 1500.
“We saw a lot of early adoption and then a slow but steady increase as the year went on. With multiple benefits to signing up, including receiving email notifications for when we have been, missed or a collection wasn’t required, alongside being able to see when your next collection is due, this service places a great deal more information right into the hands of the cesspit owner – which is exactly where it belongs,” said Guernsey Water Business Change Manager Andrea Simpson.
Around 500 million litres of wastewater are collected by the service’s 36 drivers every year, which is then transported to an emptying point to be disposed of in the wastewater network.
“The portal was a direct response to customers telling us they didn’t have enough information about their pits. Make no mistake, the cesspit service is critical infrastructure just as much as water pipes in the ground, and we’re focussed on ensuring it runs as efficiently as possible.
“As a result of customers who have signed up really interrogating their schedule, we’ve made hundreds of changes, increasing capacity and resilience in the service, allowing us to do more and react faster with the same resources. And that’s as a direct result of people seeing their collection dates, schedules and adjusting them as necessary – it is benefitting each and every cesspit customer. I would really urge all cesspit customers to sign up for this free service so we can maximise these benefits.
“With Christmas just a few weeks away, please sign up to the service so you can check your collection dates over the festive period and if you have any queries then please call our customer services team on 229500.”
“Adhoc customers and customers who think they may need an additional collection will need to make the booking by the 19th December to guarantee a collection before
Christmas. Collections due on Christmas Day will be moved to the 24th and Boxing Day collections moved to the 27th. Extra drivers will be working the Sunday before and after Christmas to accommodate all of these collections.“
