Guernsey's water and wastewater charges increase

Guernsey Water has confirmed that water and wastewater charges will increase from this month. This means there will be an overall rise of 1.34% in the combined water and wastewater bill for the average metered domestic customer and 2.32% for unmetered customers.
Managing Director, Steve Langlois, said: "Our water charges cover the cost of providing quality drinking water to our customers as well as collecting it as wastewater after they have used it. These charges also fund the ongoing investment in the infrastructure that is needed to deliver these services."
Charges for metered water will rise by 2 pence per cubic metre from £1.01 to £1.03. Unmetered water charges will increase by 1 penny per TRP unit from £0.28 to £0.29. The water standing charge will rise from £14.42 per quarter to £14.66 per quarter.
Charges for metered wastewater will increase by 3 pence per cubic metre from £1.91 to £1.94. Unmetered wastewater charges will rise by 1 penny per TRP unit from £0.50 to £0.51. The wastewater standing charge will increase from £24.77 per quarter to £25.15 per quarter.
Unsubsidised cesspit emptying charges will rise by 1.53% from £21.56 per load to £21.89. The subsidised charge will be held at £7.32 again this year, whilst Guernsey Water's sewerage network extension programme remains on hold.
"Everyone at Guernsey Water works hard to make our business as efficient as possible by managing costs carefully. This means that on average a metered domestic customer pays just £1.25 a day for our water and wastewater services," added Mr Langlois.
